Rory McIlroy Match Play Record

Rory McIlroy match play record is arguably one of the best ever in professional golf, which is unique given that he is one of the most dominate players of his era in stroke play. However in professional team match play and individual match play golf his record varies across singles, foursomes and four-ball match play formats.

Played: 101, Points: 65, Points Per Match: 0.644

Rory McIlroy’s match play record is exceptional and his win ratio is ahead of every player who has played over 100 games including Tiger Woods match play record and Ian Poulter.

As a European he does not play as much team match play formats as the USA who have the Presidents Cup as well as the Ryder Cup. That said his foursomes records is as good as his impressive singles record and his fourball record is positive too. As a former winner of the WGC Match Play he is a formidable match play golfer and one of the few multiple major champions who also has a high match play ranking.

Rory McIlroy Ryder Cup Record

Played: 38 (W16 L21 H4), Points: 22.5, Points Per Match: 0.592

Rory has played in 7 Ryder Cups since 2010 to 2018 and has been on the winning side seven times to date. Within this his four-ball record is 0.500 from 6 games and 0.607 from 7 foursomes games. 

As that makes up 79% of all the matches Rory has played in the Ryder Cup, his good singles record of 0.643 from 7 games matches his overall career record.

Rory McIlroy Singles Record

Played: 66 (W42 L20 H4), Points: 44, Points Per Match: 0.667

Rory’s individual singles record is excellent in events like the WGC Match Play which he won in 2015 and was runner-up in 2012. In that event he won 34 out of 51 games, with 3 halves in the WGC Group Stages, at 0.696 points per match.

In the Ryder Cup singles he also has a winning record of 0.563 (W4 L3 H1). Who can forget the match play moments from Rory v Patrick Reed in his 2016 singles match at Hazeltine.

In the World Match Play Championship he was W3 L3 plus he also has a singles win from the Seve Trophy.

Played: 16 (W10 L5 H1), Points: 10.5, Points Per Match: 0.656

Most of Rory’s foursomes play is from the Ryder Cup and he has a respectable rating of 0.633 from a record of of W9 L5 H1. His overall foursomes record is enhanced with a extra win in the Seve Trophy for GB&I in both foursomes and greensomes.

Rory McIlroy Four-Ball Record

Played: 18 (W8 L7 H3), Points: 9.5, Points Per Match: 0.528

Similarly the Ryder Cup brings most of his four-ball match play experience and he is 0.535 from W7 L6 H3. The even nature of his four-ball play continues in the Seve Trophy too, with one win and one loss.

Rory McIlroy Walker Cup Record

Played: 4 (W1 L2 H1), Points: 1.5, Points Per Match: 0.375

Rory’s only amateur appearance was in the 2007 Walker Cup at Royal County Down where he won his singles match against Billy Horschel, but the USA team managed to edge out GB&I by a point.

Rory lost to Horschel in his others singles match and also in one of his foursomes matches. He halved his other foursomes game with Jonathan Caldwell against Colt Knost and Dustin Johnson.
