Jim Furyk is one of only ten golfers at the time of writing to have played more than 100 professional match play games and it could hardly be more balanced. He has lost one more game than he has won, so marginally falls below the 50% mark, but his longevity at the highest level is without question.
Played: 25 (W6 L16 H3), Points: 7.5, Points Per Match: 0.300
Furyk has played in 9 consecutive Ryder Cups between 1197 and 2014 and has been on the winning side twice. He also lost as Ryder Cup Captain in 2018 in Paris and is taking on the job again in 2027.
Whilst it is not a stellar Ryder Cup record, he best format is singles where he has an even record of W4 L4 and H1 for 0.500 ranking.
In foursomes he is W4 L8 H2 for 0.357, but it is his four-ball play that pulls down the average with only 0.227 from W2 L8 H1.
Played: 33 (W20 L10 H3), Points: 21.5, Points Per Match: 0.652
The Presidents Cup has been a happier hunting ground. Furyk has played in 7 consecutive Presidents Cups from 1998 to 2011 and been on the winning team every time apart from a tie in 2003. He also lead the team to victory as Team Captain in 2024.
In Presidents Cup foursomes he is W7 L3 H3 for 0.654 and in four-ball he is W8 L5 for 0.615. Again his singles record is the best at W5 L2 for 0.714
Played: 58 (W29 L27 H2), Points: 30, Points Per Match: 0.517
In team match play, Furyk’s singles record is his strength as his steady play and good short game gives him an edge as shown above.
In the individual singles of the WGC Match Play he has won 20 out of 41 games with one half for an even 0.500 record which is decent.
He also played one singles match in the 2006 World Match Play Championship which he lost.
Played: 27 (W11 L11 H5), Points: 13.5, Points Per Match: 0.500
Like singles, Jim Furyk’s steady play is more suited to foursomes. His record in the Presidents Cup much better as shown above and balances out his Ryder Cup foursomes record, which suffers from being on the losing side more.
The only foursomes partners he had who played with more than a couple of times were Justin Leonard in the Ryder Cup and Tiger Woods in the Presidents Cup and he had a winning record of 0.625 from 4 games in each case.
Played: 24 (W10 L13 H1), Points: 10.5, Points Per Match: 0.438
Furyk is not renowned as one of the longest hitters on tour and his steady game is probably not as suited to four-balls as other match play formats and this shows in his record. Despite the high number of games in this format he never had a settled partner who played more than a couple of games. The exception was Tiger Woods in the Presidents Cup who he played with 5 times, winning 3.
