What Is A Plate Or Consolation Event?

A plate or consolation match play event is a knockout draw for players who lose in the first round of a match play knockout event.

The benefits of a plate competition are to give players a minimum of 2 games when they enter a match play knockout event.

Players who win their first round in a plate continue to play the remaining rounds as a match play knockout, with the winners continuing to play against winners.

Players who lose a match in a plate are eliminated from the competition and play no further matches.

Plate competitions can be seeded, but normally they follow the draw order of the main competition, which if it is seeded will indirectly provide a seeding for the plate. So for instance, the loser of match 1 will play the loser of match 2 in the first round of the plate and so on.

If you would prefer a match play event where there is no plate and every player plays every round then choose a Match Play Matrix® event.
