Golf Match Play Software

Match play software for golf from Match Play World enables you to easily create and manage a head to head tournament online.

Golf Match Play Tournament Formats

Match Play world offers two types of draw for match play golf formats:

Match Play Knockout where the winner of a match advances to the next round and the loser is eliminated. This continues until there is one player left undefeated.

Match Play Matrix® where every player plays every round and the winner is still the last player left undefeated.

Either draw can set up as an unseeded or a seeded draw and used for a Plate or Consolation event.

Golf Match Play Scoring

Knockout Scoring
In match play knockout for golf, when one player wins a hole they go 1up. If they win the next hole they go 2up. If instead they had lost the next hole then they go back to All Square or Tied.

Play continues until one player is more holes up than there are left to play. So if a player is 3up with 2 holes to play then the result is recorded as 3&2.

If a knockout match finishes on the last hole then the score is recorded as the number of holes up, which will either be 1up or 2up.

If the match is level and play goes into sudden death extra holes then the winner is the first person to win a hole. The result is then shown as the number of holes played. For example in an 18 hole match, if one player wins at the 2nd extra hole then the result is shown as ‘20th’

Matrix Scoring
In a Match Play Matrix® for golf, the scoring for winning and losing holes is the same. However each match plays the full 18 holes. Therefore even if a player is more holes up than there are left to play, the match is not over and play continues and the number of holes up or down at the end of the round is the result. If the match is level after 18 holes, then play continues in sudden death with the winner being given the score of 1up regardless of where the match ends.

In a Matrix event, the holes up/holes down score for each round are then added together to give a Score Difference for each player that counts to the final position in the standings.
